Stocks-Mann Architects, PLC, was selected to design the new Library and Distance Learning Center on the campus of Southeast Arkansas College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. This new 2.07 million dollar facility will be designed to house 30,000 volumes complete with administrative/staff area, seven group study rooms ranging in size from 2 to 6 students. Southeast Arkansas College has expressed their desire that this new facility take advantage of energy savings features through the use of an energy efficient HVAC system, proper building orientation to allow for day-lighting in the stack space, and water saving plumbing fixtures. The southeast corner of campus offers the opportunity to take advantage of the largest green area of the campus in the form of views from the stack area and the student patio area. Since there is essentially no “back door”, all sides of the building will need to be sensitive to the surroundings while making a visual connection to the main campus.
